Happy Thursday!

Here are the weights for the first 4 days. As you can see we had some weight loss which usually isn't a concern. I just haven't ever had so much weight loss before! I know that a caeser can sometimes cause this as well, but I was puzzled as they were so strong and drank so well!

Because of the loss, I did inbetween weights as well (which I don't usually do) so it was just scribbled down on a notepad for me to see what's potting....

Wednesday morning

Good morning!
The 2 little ones have each gained a teeny amount, so just glad they are no longer losing!

Oh.. and Journey feels much happier now......

I haven't been able to bath her after her caesar as it has been freezing here in PE. So I just took all the loose coat out, and the bloody bits from the vet.

Left & Right Markings

After tonight's feed I tried to get some snapshots of each puppy to show their body markings... wow what a difficult task! Firstly, the damn monsters are so squirmy 90% of the pics were blurred! Secondly, my portrait lens is broken and has gone for repairs, so I used my rinky dink camera in normal room light (facepalm)... anyway, you get the idea - I will do better with pics in future, I promise!

Dewclaw page

I forgot to post the details of the dew claws FYI... And usually I do a picture.. but the little blighters flew everywhere, they were so small! Only Yellow had good dew claws... and Teal weirdly had only 1 rear dew claw (never had that before!). The boy had huge gastly rear ones!

Tuesday Lunchtime

I came home and put the 2 little girls on mom for 10 extra minutes - they did very well!

Then the rest of the gang joined in...

Shame, mom is losing coat at a rate of knots! I will give her a rake tonight because the pups are pulling it out while they squirm around!

Teatime Tuesday

I popped off home at tea time to make sure the 2 little girls were drinking

Then everyone joined in:

Good morning!

Good morning!
Babies are drinking nicely, but the 2 littlies are still not putting on weight (red and lime). It is puzzling as they are drinking well, so I will make the decision at lunchtime today to give an additional feed every now and again with a tube.
All puppies are strong and wriggle and squirm and fight to get to mom when she gets inthe box.
I will weigh them at 1pm and see how it's going :)

Today I am back at work but this is what I see from my computer:

Journey is being such a good girl! She has access to half the house and a small yard, and she has chosen to stay in the box with the babies!

I have a camera set up in the room, with sound, and I can pan around to see what's happening, and also talk to Journey. I have it available on my work PC as well as on my phone, so leaving the pups and JJ is easier now!

Dew claws

The vet nurse came this afternoon to help me with the dew claws. Some pups had rear dewclaws as well - so they all came off... no pain no fuss - they didn't even bleed! We just sealed them with a magnesium powder and they latched onto mom straight away for a meal!

2 Days old

The babies are 2 days old. All girls still down in weight, but they are strong and eating well.

Puppies!

The whelping area was set up on Saturday...

Saturday lunch: Journey polished off a tin of tuna. Her impending litter didn't seem to concern her!

Lunchtime temp went down to 37°C, so I thought we were all on track for the temp low on Sunday, followed by the spike and then puppies on Monday....

Think again!

Saturday night Journey ate a full meal and then I hopped into the bath. She was trotting around yapping and interacting with my other dogs, when all of a sudden everyone dispersed, and Journey came to stand next to me, shaking like a leaf! So it was off to the vet at 10pm!

We had to have an immediate caesar.. Once the vets got going it was quick - puppies flew out of the operating room! And we got a bonus baby a no5!

They took some time on Journey, and we were finally able to leave the vet at a few minutes to 12.
By 1am Journey was settled in at home with her babies, and they had had their first feed.

Some of the family were allowed to visit, although Journey was very out of it still.

It was a  VERY long night. I was up for most of it, sitting with Journey and grabbing an hour of sleep at a time when I could. She needed a bit of help with the feedings, but seemed to be looking after them ok. She cleaned them nicely, and chewed off the rest of their umbilical cords. By this morning they were all drinking strongly and I am very happy with them!

Tide was allowed into the box today to help with the cleaning - Journey seemed to welcome the assistance!

No one else seems to be allowed too close today, Journey has got quite protective, which is unusual for her.

All the female pups have been given coloured bands for helping with telling the pups apart. Weights were down this morning, but they are drinking well, so I am not worried.
