Tizzy Pups Day 1

Day 58 - SURPRISE!!!

Well, what a shock to have a girl in labour so early.... exciting and very stressful.
Tizzy Wing started panting during the night and was very restless at 3am. My other dogs wouldn't settle and I wondered if she needed to go out, so I got up and checked her for the 3rd time and let her out. A few seconds later she was happy (she peed on the driveway at the door quickly) and chuffed off to the room again. No sooner were the lights out, and I heard some panting again. Time to call Sam to get over to my house... I was pretty sure that labour had started! At 4am I got up and made up the whelping room (in the middle of a downpour with thunder)..... did my phone-a-friend thing again, and Sam came over. By 5am we were ready to rock 'n roll, and soon after the first pup appeared!

I will give more on the pups later... here are just a few pics of this morning 5-8am

Day 57

All pups look healthy and big and perfectly formed!

Spring!

It's just occurred to me that these litters will all be born in SPRING! So, Sam & I went shopping for a few flowers for our upcoming photo shoots......

And following the SPRING theme... here is a gorgeous picture of Q's dad running with Tide's dad in the daisies!

Birth Charts

Here are the first birth charts that we will be needing... No doubt you will be seeing a lot of photos of the first one after each weigh-in (once a week after the initial couple of days)

...and no... the number of pups expected is not 8, that's how many lines fit on the sheet!! (same sheets are used for BC's)

The countdown

I can't believe that there will be Sheltie puppies in my house next week! Tizzy Wing has 9 days to go...

I have prepared most of the necessary items, but still a few little things to get. The whelping room will be prepared this weekend. I am about to print out the birth charts, and then we will go through all the checklists to double check that we have everything.

Tizzy Wing will be off to the vet on Friday for another scan and then also an x-ray. I can't wait!

Then the "fun" shopping begins for some new photo props! With everyone eagerly awaiting news, it's nice to have interesting & pretty photos :):)

Finn has started showing a little and there is a sudden expansion on Q's tummy:

My poor little baby looks like a hippo! She is VERY VERY sulky and needy and whenever I touch her she moans like a drain!

Tizzy wing doesn't seem to be too phased and she is much further along. Finn is her normal hysterical, silly self, and probably has no clue that she's getting a little paunch!

Grooming...

The sheltie girls had a nice grooming this morning. Tizzy wing had a bath too. I was quite dismayed to see that she has lost her figure :( :( She looks like a pork sausage now......

Loving the dryer!

More tummies

Tizzy 7.5 weeks

Q almost 6 weeks

Finn 5 weeks

Tuesday Treat

Chicken and rice!

Theres a fat pudding on my floor....

Pregnant Q enjoyed a walk in the park on Sunday!

She's not showing yet, but we are taking it easy nonetheless!

DNA testing

You will note that I have listed all DNA testing on my website. Here's a little more info on breeding with tested dogs.

Naturally, I will breed only healthy dogs, and my aim is to breed only clears to clears for the ultimate Health of the BC and Sheltie!

Sheltie litters picture pedigrees...

Update in Mackland-land

The girls are doing great! Here is a quick update of the week's activities:

Tizzy Wing
She gave us a scare earlier this week. It seemed that she was in a bit of discomfort and had a little discharge. We went off to the vet on Wednesday morning and we did a scan. Puppies are growing and look healthy, no abnormalities in her uterus, but it did seem like she was developing a small infection in her urethra, so she has been on anti-biotics for a couple of days. She seems spritely and full of life again.
Tizzy is finding it difficult to get on the bed - she takes a massive run-up now!

Q
Q has been a happy chappy this week, very energetic, and can't understand why her exercise has been restricted... she comes along to training but is only allowed to potter around and do tunnels and play with toys from this week. Shame, she's getting all barked out while I train Chakotay!
Her tummy has suddenly hardened and seems very firm... methinks the babies are starting to grow!

Finn
Finn is the same as always, no bodily changes yet, energy still the same. Her first scan last week was still too early, but the scan this week shows that she is pregnant but still very early. And she, too, can't understand the sudden restrictions. We are doing nice neighbourhood walks :)

All the girls have started eating more, and Tizzy-Wing appears to be a bottomless pit (snapping jaws dangerous when I'm offering something)

The next delivery has arrived YUMMY
