All the moms and tots are doing very well! A few of you have been asking, so I thought I would write it in here.
Red is eating 5 meals a day now, and is still thin! The little buggers are eating her alive. She sees them galloping towards her and she does her best to flee! Shame! I am separating the pups from her for parts of the day so that she has a rest. Today they are in the back pen (had a drink on mom at 7 this morning, and then a full breakfast in the pen at 8). Mom is free to rest with my shelties, and then the pups get lunch at 1pm. Mom will stay in the pen with them for the rest of the afternoon and then they all get to run around at 5pm while mom takes a break.
Finn is spending more time away from her box now (but not far). Her babies are squeakers, which she does sometimes ignore if she's had enough, bit if it looks like someone else may attend to them, she's there like a shot! If they are sleeping, I close the baby gates with her out of the room, otherwise one is set ajar for her, and then the shelties can peep in too. The best babysitter is Maverick (the male BC - he even helps clean them!). Finn is not s thin as red, her babies are still much smaller, so the mother-eaters have only just begun!
