To all the prospective puppy owners, I thought that you would like to see the photographs, videos, and updates of the Mackland puppies while they are still with me. These Border Collie & Shetland Sheepdog puppies are lovingly bred and raised in my home. This blog lets me show you step by step how your baby is raised. It highlights each step from mating to 8 weeks old. I hope that you all enjoy reading about them as much as I enjoy having them in my house!

Planned Litter - COLOURS
The next Mackland litter will be a Border Collie litter. This one is planned for January 2017, and will be co-bred with Samantha Wainwright, in Port Elizabeth. This will be Samantha's "first" litter!
There won't be many pups available, as we already have some firm bookings. The litter should be suitable for showing as well as performance.
Black & white and also ee-red & white pups are expected. This litter is pending results of the last bit of testing that we need to do.

Hills vouchers

Your Hills vouchers will either be in your puppy packs (dogs flying Saturday) or posted with your registrations next week. Please note they sent last years vouchers, grrr... I have changed it on the back and let them know. If your vet won't give you the food, ask them to contact the Hills distributor to verify!
This morning's day-pen
The little buggers were up at 5am today to go outside (it was dark!)
And so by 8am they were all sedate and sweet again hehe

Rainy Saturday
Well.. bath day was once again rained out! So I put all the pups into the dog room and they had a ball playing and going nuts while I bathed them, and then introduced them to the dryer and some odd surfaces...
On Sunday I said goodbye to 3 babies.. so sad...
JJ Boy is in Johannesburg, and G2 and Coffee are now in Cape Town!

Early morning treat!
Pups were up and about early this morning, so they had their breakfast at 6am! So, when I left for work at 8am, I gave them a yoghurt treat!
It was only when I bent down to give it to them did I see what had been happening in the yard while I was in the house................ MUD!!!!!!!!
POO!
With the pups 7 and 8 weeks old, the poo is at it's peak!
I sometimes get to work and there's poo on me. There's certainly poo on my shoes every day!
In the morning, the nighttime pen is covered in poo. During the day, poo patrol in the yard is hectic as pups swarm the poop scoop (beware, they love it!)...
Evenings are the worst, as pups are still mad from being outside, and they get put in the newspapered pen inside:
Picking up a little puppy poo is not as easy as you might think!; it's an entire organised mission impossible scenario!
First open a bag on the outside of the pen and let it lay in wait. Next, put a sheet of newspaper on a table next to the pen, making sure it's a small piece! Grab a piece of paper towel and hold it in the right hand. Must be double. Put a fuzzy slipper on the left foot. Take a piece of (large) newspaper in the left hand. We are now ready. But this time they have seen me coming and they are hurtling to the fence like a tidal wave in a small pond. Plot the route over clean paper and make sure that the little offending turd is in plain sight. Take aim! Left foot goes into the pen nowhere near the poop, pups all devour the fluffy slipper. Some will run up the left leg, clawing and scratching a bloody pathway! Right foot is suspended in the air on the outside of the pen to create balance... Do not let the pain stop you! Right hand is poised up in the air ready for the swoop to the poop. Pups by now are onto my plan and start scattering and guessing which way I am going. Left hand comes into play and leans in and waves large newspaper sheet on the opposite side of the pen. Piranhas swarm and tear it to shreds while right hand picks up the poop and mom lowers right foot to shift balance back out of the pen. Next move is to shake the smarter munchkins off my shredded slipper as I retreat from the pen, popping the poop into the packet!! Lastly wait for the swarm to retreat and place the small piece of paper where the poop had been (a large sheet takes too long to flatten before they are upon it!)
Things go downhill from here if another poop appears, because one cannot use the same procedure twice in a row....!

Blankies
The blankies are being prepared for the babies this week. Just before each pup goes, both moms will get their scent on the blankies (and mine too) and they will travel with them to their new homes, and hopefully not mess on them too soon so that they have a familiar smell in their new surroundings!

Update
So, the vet nurse came yesterday and gave the Sweets the once over. They got their microchips and also had their vaccinations. They will be dewormed with Drontal this evening. Not a peep out of a single puppy! Shelties are braver than Border Collies!
I will be doing the registrations shortly for the Sweets, but because there is an export in the Wings litter, I will hold off until 8 weeks before I register those.
Yesterday all the pups had another pumpkin treat - they devoured it at a rate of knots!
Today was a yoghurt treat on their food....

They are in a new run today, and I went home to supervise while the mowers came in and cut the main section of the yard. They didn't flinch at the noise!!
