For all of you that have been waiting in anticipation for Q's babies.. they are here! ...after a lot of huffing and puffing!
Q went into labour at lunchtime on Friday and had me up all night with mild contractions. Finally at 4am she started being more serious about it, but still no babies. She wasn't stressed but I wanted to find out when I can start worrying, so made the first call to the vet at 07:30. She said I could give it another 2 hours. Those 2 hours took forever to go by and still nothing and all Q wanted to do was curl up with me (on the floor outside the whelping box), so I made the second call to the vet. She arrived shortly afterwards and did a scan of the babies. All looked good, except one that had a lowered heart rate. She did an exam of Q and no pups were in the birth canal, so she gave her a shot to help with contractions, and gave me a time limit of 20 min before we could take further action. The 20 min passed quickly, and it was off to the vet we went....
Q had an emergency c-section at 11:30am, and I was able to receive the babies as soon as they popped out. One of the puppies was starting to be distressed (light green) and was actually born green.... Sam and I warmed them and dried them and we took them straight home and put them in the whelping box on hot water bottles, with heater and heat lamp. Tizzy Wing and V then cleaned the babies further and sat with them while we went back to the vet to collect Q (she had to be stitched up, and the vet wanted her properly awake before going home).
Q took to the babies immediately and is VERY protective!!
Thanks to everyone for their assistance and well wishes!
I am SO happy to have Q's babies here and safe, and I am so impressed that Q is such a good mommy on top of everything else that she has achieved! She is REALLY an incredible little dog!
