I'm a ZOMBIE

Today I could easily fit in with one of those horror movies where the zombies with black eye shadow lurk around looking all creepy and out of it..........

It was a looong night!

Chak was a bit restless yesterday evening so while the pups rested, I let her out of the room. She didn't seem to want to go back when they woke up, but I put her in there with them and she settled.

At 11pm they started grumbling, and it got progressively worse. I wondered if their tummies were a little sore, so I gave protexin and they GRABBED the dropper and wanted more. So by then I was wondering if they were thirsty. The little boy latched onto mom and seemed alright but when I put the girls there, they weren't interested... they didn't seem hot, or cold, just grumpy.

When I left the room, Chak was out of the box like a shot and then the moaning began. I got Chak back in, but no one wanted a drink, they just wanted to fuss and make a noise.. I checked the pups again, and they seemed fine except for the little tantrums.

By 1am there was screaming, Chak was hiding in the bathroom and I got her back in there, she cleaned them and I tried to get them to drink, to no avail. Her teats looked a little smaller to me, but maybe it was just my imagination.

By 3am the blood curdling wails had my Aussies hiding on the driveway and the shelties lying in the kitchen. Poor younger border collie was under my duvet hiding!

I tried again and the pups wouldn't even try and grab a teat, so I made a bottle and they were all fed RC baby puppy milk. After that, there were a few grumbles and they eventually went to sleep.

At 6 am they were starting to get antsy again, so they were fed again, with only the boy drinking properly, the girls each had only a little. They still didn't want to drink from Chak.

So.. I phoned the vet.

Chak & I were in the surgery by 6:30. The vet examined her and she looked fit and healthy, her temperature was normal, and she did a blood smear, all normal. She did say that her milk production was down to a grinding halt. She gave Chak a Clopamon injection to help stimulate milk production again, and I have tablets to give every 8 h ours. I will have to feed the babies today until it kicks in. She reckoned it was due to the caeser, but it's a bit strange that it took so long for it to dry up...

Here's hoping for some sleep tonight (or here at work while the boss is out...)
